CultureFest is a multicultural family friendly event that celebrates diversity by bringing together local cultures including Indigenous and International identities, with an emphasis on civic pride, community bridging and cultural learning. The festival includes booths where we display information about each culture's heritage and identity. There are art exhibitions and volunteers dressed in traditional wear throughout the facility. Many of the booths serve food for participants to try. We also have many community service providers present to promote their services and increase awareness of community supports. The event has live entertainment including musicians, traditional dances and games with talented local artists. The Fort Nelson Community Literacy Society coordinates the event through partnerships with many local organizations. Some examples are Fort Nelson Aboriginal Friendship Society, Fort Nelson First Nation, Fort Nelson Public Library, Fort Nelson Historical Society, Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, FN Filipino Association, the Sikh Community, Northern Rockies Fire Rescue, School District 81, Aurora Dance Group, and others.
