C) Your business or organization is owned and operated in Northern British Columbia.

Meet Shannon Cass

Shannon Cass used to design and sell log homes, but the demands of the travel associated with her profession began to take their toll when her family came along. While considering a possible career change, Shannon happened to be looking for custom blinds for her home and realized there was a local niche in the blinds industry. So in early 2012 she opened Best Blinds and now spends her days helping others make their houses into homes.

One of the things Shannon enjoyed about her former career is the opportunities it gave her to meet so many different people. Now, she says, she gets to do the same thing in a different context. Plus, she adds, being her own boss allows her to make flexible choices so that she is better able to work around the needs of her family. It also means being able to get out and do more of the things they enjoy as a family, like biking, hiking and camping in the summer and sledding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. The family also enjoys entertaining and hanging out with friends.
